Profile - Magda Porras
Baking and Pastry
Magda Porras is recent graduate and is now the assistant to the owner at the All in One Bake Shop in Austin, TX. She was introduced to the owner of the bake shop, Jennifer Bortos, who is also one of our graduates, as part of her externship. Magda is flourishing in her position and has fallen in love with cake decorating.
“I really love my career in baking,” said Magda. “Recently, I entered my work in Austin’s Takes the Cake show, one of the largest cake events in the nation. I spent a lot of time behind the scenes meeting great pastry chefs and learned what it takes to put on a show where over 500 cakes are made.”
“I also worked on a new TV show called Have Cake Will Travel that is coming out soon, working on the set and learning the magic of culinary television production”
“I really loved culinary school. I could not wait to get to class in the morning. I learned confidence in my craft and adaptability in the kitchen. If I have to bake 600 cupcakes today, I know I can do it and do it well. I would not trade that experience for anything else.”
My advice to someone considering culinary school? Follow your passion! People are more willing to hire you if you have been to culinary school because they know you have the knowledge, confidence, and skills.”
“I have built wonderful relationships with so many people at the school. I go back and talk to the chefs when I need some advice. I present to the Sugar Arts Club. The best thing is - everyone at the school loves what they do. I want to be part of the school forever!”
