On Sunday, September 11, the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts’ Austin campus will be hosting the Austin/San Antonio regional competition for the Chefs Under Fire series. With two Escoffier students and one of our Chef-Instructors vying for the win, this is sure to be a heated competition!
Escoffier students Daniel Valenzueala and Dana Gorman will be facing quite a challenge, with a strong line-up of culinary contenders. Not only will they be going head-to-head against our own Chef-Instructor Gregory Dishman, but they also have to compete against fellow student Tarin Schmidt Pueblo (of the Art Institute in San Antonio), San Antonio Chef-Instructor Christina Perrington (also of the Art Institute), returning champion Erica Beneke (Executive Chef at Max’s Wine Dive), and Joe Becerra of Austin’s 2nd Bar and Kitchen–one of Bon Appetit Magazine’s recently named Top 10 New Restaurants. Talk about pressure!
Judging the competition is celebrity chef Jason Dady, who has brought such establishments as The Lodge, BIN 555, Tre Trattoria and Two Bros. BBQ Market to San Antonio’s dining scene. T. Marshall Jones, Executive Director of The Food & Wine Foundation of Texas, will be emceeing the event.
No matter who takes the title at this exciting show-down, we wish all of the competitors the best of luck. May the best chef win!
