Young Escoffier Competition 2018 Surprises with Celebrity Judge

BOULDER, CO, February 13, 2018 – For the third year in a row, the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts hosted the Young Escoffier Competition, a cooking contest for high school students from Colorado and its surrounding states. Curtis Duffy, the celebrity chef well known for his culinary accolades and documentary For Grace, was in attendance as a guest judge.

Of the thirteen participating schools, three were finalists: Legacy High School (3rd place), Standley Lake High School (2nd place) and Boulder High School (1st place).

Each of the participating students received a $500 scholarship toward an education at the prominent Boulder culinary school in addition to $1500 (3rd place), $2000 (2nd place) and $3000 (1st place) awarded to those on the winning teams.

Students from high school in Colorado and Wyoming participated.

The event was held at Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts’ campus, where the students gathered to cook a series of dishes featuring mystery ingredients not revealed until the contest began.

Students were then given an hour to make dishes that would be judged on technique, taste, texture and presentation.

The following schools participated: Triumph High School of Cheyenne, WY; Gateway High School of Aurora, CO; Middle Park High School of Granby, CO; Boulder High School of Boulder, CO; Eagle Valley High School of Gypsum, CO; Central High School of Grand Junction, CO; Thompson Valley High School of Loveland, CO; Standley Lake High School of Westminster, CO; Berthoud High School of Berthoud, CO; Rocky Mountain High School of Fort Collins, CO; Weld Central of Keenesburg, CO; Fairview High School of Boulder, CO; and Legacy High School of Broomfield, CO.
