If you are an Austinite or attend culinary school in the area, you may have a good sense of the local food scene. But did you know about the pop-up dinners that happen from time to time? According to Eater, another one was on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m., and it was hosted by Scrumptious Chef at Tamale House East in Austin.
This latest food event featured exotic meats. According to the Facebook page for this dinner, yak, antelope, alligator and goose were all on the menu. Additionally, the event showcased a new Texalina House Sauce made with “the hottest chile pepper on earth,” the Carolina Reaper. The vegetable sides that are also on the menu were sourced from within 25 miles of Austin, so there is a social aspect of the event as well. The organizers are working toward supporting local farmers.
Scrumptious Chef is a name for a group of chefs that routinely get together to make tasty and creative food. The series began in a backyard in East Austin, where friends and family members were in attendance. Now the venture has grown to invite foodies from around the city.
