Boulder Seafood Restaurant Partners With Monterey Bay Aquarium

Boulder seafood restaurant partners with Monterey Bay AquariumJax Fish House and Oyster Bar is the first seafood restaurant in the state of Colorado to enter into a partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program. The restaurant was established in 1994 and has locations in Boulder and Denver. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program is an initiative to help educate food producers and consumers about threatened seafood populations in order to aid them in making informed decisions. Through their partnership, Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar will only serve fish identified by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program as a “best choice” or “good alternative.”

Seafood Watch is an effort on behalf of the Monterey Bay Aquarium to protect worldwide fish populations by encouraging sustainable seafood practices. Through the distribution of pocket guides as well as its mobile application, Seafood Watch is working to increase consumer awareness of the kinds of fish and seafood that are being purchased. It divides popular seafood into the categories of “best choices,” “good alternatives,” and “avoid” to help consumers make informed decisions about what kinds of seafood to buy. The recommendations are made based on factors such as the size of a particular species’ population in the wild and the methods typically used to catch that species.
