The Cinco de Mayo Open House

By: Helena Stallings, Culinary Arts Student

On May 3rd, the Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Boulder held a Cinco de Mayo themed Open House. The event was from 11am-1pm and the festivities included whole roasted pigs, a Cake Boss Challenge, a DJ, a photo booth and much more. Along with prospective students and their friends and families, members of the community were invited to join in on the fun and take a look at what Escoffier has to offer. Several companies had booths set up to share job opportunities and speak with potential employees. While Escoffier’s Home Cook Department handed out flyers on upcoming classes and seminars.

For the student volunteers, the event was a great opportunity to gain more hands on experience and a chance to share their passion with future students or anyone who would listen. I spent a little time with the Pastry Arts students decorating cupcakes and watched as several Pastry students and 1 parent compete against each other in the Cake Boss Challenge. I was thrilled to watch the carving of the whole roasted pigs with the Culinary Arts students and talk about my future the Career Service representatives. The Cinco de Mayo Open House was a wonderful way to provide job opportunities for students, bring current and future students together, and open the doors of our culinary world to our community.
