Chef Craig Levinsky has always had an irrational response to food, but the classroom is his home. His teaching career began at CUNY City College of New York, where he oversaw its Technical Writing Program and directed a multi-faceted 5-year grant initiative focusing on retention, teaching technology, distance learning, and enhancements in general education curricula in math and writing. Additionally, he served on the campus’ General Education Committee, training faculty campus-wide and developing courses throughout the college. He later helped direct the nationally renowned ASAP program at CUNY LaGuardia Community College, aimed at providing free admission and long-term support to economically disadvantaged students.
After moving with his family to Colorado, where he had graduated from CU, Chef Craig returned to school to gain expertise in another passion, the culinary field, earning his ACF Sous Chef Certification. He reminisces reverently of his time spent in kitchens alongside decorated chefs, but he ultimately couldn’t escape the classroom. “Teaching at Escoffier,” he says, “is the perfect opportunity to dovetail these two distinct career callings that have fulfilled me so deeply.” He also gains fulfillment from his wife, son, dog, garden, and records.
