Frequently Asked Questions for Busy Adult Learners
What is the weekly time commitment for coursework?
The weekly time commitment varies depending on your program and campus of choice. Generally, you can expect to dedicate anywhere from 15-25 hours per week to your coursework.
If you’re taking classes on-campus in Boulder, CO or Austin, TX, 25 hours per week are recommended for academics and school-related activities, depending on the student’s learning style. For our online programs, approximately 15-23 hours per week is spent on school-related activities depending on program, credential, and personal pace.
Keep in mind that individual students may need more or less time depending on their learning style and the time they want to spend on reading assignments or extra practice.

How can Escoffier’s culinary classes for adults fit into a busy schedule?
Escoffier offers both on-campus and online options to help fit different lifestyles and schedules.
Our online programs provide greater flexibility, which could allow you to study from home without relocating or leaving your current job. Students can watch instructional videos and complete cooking assignments in their home kitchens on their own schedule, as long as they meet weekly deadlines. The online school week runs from Wednesday through Tuesday, designed so students can use weekends to complete assignments and ask Chef Instructors questions before assignments are due. Online students can also work with Escoffier’s Success Coaches to help keep them on track.
For those who prefer in-person learning, our on-campus programs in Boulder, CO and Austin, TX can allow you to work alongside other adult learners making career changes as well as younger students. On-campus students also may be able to work with Escoffier’s Student Success Managers for help with balancing their busy lives with their coursework.

Are there culinary night school classes at Escoffier?
Escoffier doesn’t offer traditional night classes, but our online programs can work well for busy adults.
With online classes, you can either join live class sessions when they’re scheduled, or watch the recorded versions anytime that works for you – early morning, late evening, or weekends. The school week runs from Wednesday to Tuesday, and as long as you finish your assignments by the weekly deadline, you choose when to do most of the work.
This means if you work during the day, you can watch recorded sessions and do your culinary coursework in the evenings or whenever you have free time.
Is Escoffier a part-time culinary school?
Escoffier doesn’t offer traditional part-time programs, but our online programs can provide the flexibility that part-time students may need.
Approximately 15-23 hours per week is spent on school-related activities depending on program, credential, and personal pace.
On-campus programs in Boulder, CO and Austin, TX typically follow a more structured schedule with attendance requirements.
So while not technically “part-time,” the online format could let you maintain your job and other responsibilities while pursuing your culinary education.
Are the programs self-paced or do they follow a fixed schedule?
Escoffier’s programs can be a blend of structured and self-paced learning, depending on your program and campus. Online programs operate on a weekly schedule that runs from Wednesday to Tuesday. You have flexibility when you complete your coursework during each week – you can watch recorded class sessions and do cooking assignments whenever it’s convenient for you. However, you must meet weekly assignment deadlines to stay on track.
On-campus programs in Boulder, CO and Austin, TX follow a more structured schedule with set class times and attendance requirements.
So while online students may have more flexibility to train when it works for their schedule, both formats follow predetermined timelines with specific deadlines and program durations ranging from 30-84 weeks depending on your chosen program.
What career options are available after graduation?
A culinary education from Escoffier can help prepare you for various career paths in the food industry, though success depends on your skills, experience, and local opportunities.
Many graduates start in kitchen roles like line cook or prep cook and work their way up over time. Others pursue careers outside restaurants – personal chef work, catering, food styling, recipe development, or starting their own food businesses.
Depending on your program, you might explore baking & pastry roles, plant-based cooking, nutrition coaching, or hospitality management. The food industry offers options whether you want hands-on cooking, business management, or creative work.
How does Escoffier help students find externships or jobs?
Escoffier can provide career support through our Career Services department to help students pursue externships and job opportunities.

Do I need special equipment or tools at home?

For online programs, students will require a reliable internet connection and a computer or mobile device to access their classes and assignments.
