Snarf's Sandwiches to open Austin, TX location

Snarf's Sandwiches to open Austin, TX locationSnarf’s Sandwiches, a Colorado based franchise, will be opening a location near campus in Austin. The restaurant will be situated near St. David?’s Medical Center at 2901 Medical Arts Street and will feature oven-toasted submarine sandwiches.

Snarf’s locations are known for having artful interiors indicative of the local communities in which they sit. Prior to the location’s grand opening the week of June 23rd, there will be a mosaic mural completed inside the restaurant, which is intended to signify the “wonderfully artistic personality” of Austin. Founder Jimmy Seidel expressed that he always hopes to capture the spirit of the surrounding area in decorating his shops, and that doing so in Austin was of particular interest to him.

“Austin has a wonderfully artistic personality,” said Seidel in a press release. “We’ve taken great care in selecting our unique decor including a custom mosaic highlighting Austin’s cityscape.”

Seidel has teamed up with a group of established Texas residents to collaboratively own the new location, perhaps to ensure that Snarf’s commitment to local identity be upheld in the newest location. Elizabeth and Don Baker of Austin, as well as Lisa and Tim Kriegshauser of Dallas will all have ownership stakes in the business.

It’s been nearly two decades since Seidel opened up the first Snarf’s location (which is now as “The Shack.” Since starting that first franchise in Boulder, Colorado, Seidel has grown the chain to include almost 20 locations nationwide. The Austin location will be the 19th Snarf’s.

Though a good deal has changed since the opening of The Shack (including the addition of online ordering and a steady aggregation of new menu items), Seidel seems drawn to Austin because of the unique environment and strong community it provides, much like Boulder did in 1996.

“Austin reminds me of the unique community vibe we experienced in Boulder when we opened our first shop. We’re excited to introduce new “Snarfers” in the Austin area to our craveable food, colorful personality and atmosphere.”
