You can find specialty, locally-made chocolate at these Boulder chocolate shops.

Chocolate lovers rejoice! There are two places in Boulder, Colorado, where you can indulge. Old standbys and new treats alike can be found at these local stores. Whether you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth or find inspiration as you take cooking classes in Boulder, these shops will suit your needs:

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
To experience that old-time candy store feel, head to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Located in the Historic Pearl Street Mall, this chocolate factory and candy store is just the place to take you back. Not only does it carry all sorts of treats, but you can actually watch as employees make some of their products. This is a great opportunity for culinary students to see their studies in action. You can observe as they make chocolate-dipped fruits and snacks, or watch them make fudge on a traditional marble slab.

If you’ve got a serious sugar tolerance, don’t miss “The Monster Apple,” a Granny Smith apple dipped in chocolate, rolled in pecans, coated in chocolate and drizzled in confectionery. The description alone might give you a cavity, but it’s totally worth it. It also has an assortment of apples stripped entirely of their health benefits in other ways, and a wide selection of bulk candy and gift boxes.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, 1300 Pearl St. Boulder, CO 80302, 303-444-8455.

Piece, Love & Chocolate
Piece, Love & Chocolate (PL&C) is a chocolate boutique that opened in Boulder in 2011. PL&C seeks to provide all things chocolate, and it stands up to the task. It promises a selection of over 50 different flavors of chocolate whenever you come in, along with cakes, cookies and other pastries. If you’re a serious chocolate fan, you can join Chocoholics Anonymous, PL&C’s loyalty program. You get two points for every dollar spent, and gaining points can get you free cookies, chocolates and even free cake if you’re willing to save up.

All of the chocolates at PL&C are made from fresh, natural ingredients and contain no preservatives. In addition to carrying its own chocolates, PL&C carry fine chocolates from around the world. In the “Art Gallery of Chocolatiers,” chocolate makers are celebrated for their beautiful, innovative and artisanal pieces.

PL&C also offers classes and events for those who want to gain an even better understanding of chocolate and pastry making.
