Sixty lucky barbecue and beer fans will get the chance to experience a one-night-only paired dinner with The Salt Lick and Jester King Brewery on Wednesday, Nov. 18. This is the first time the two have worked together.
Salt Lick owner and Austin culinary arts star Scott Roberts and executive chef Mackie Gmitter put together a menu full of favorites that pair perfectly with some of Jester King’s top brews.
The starters include:
- Sourdough crostini topped with smoked pulled chicken and tangerine chutney,
Paired with Kollaborationsbier, a collaboration with Live Oak Brewing made with Czech hops, wild yeast and bacteria,
- Farm fresh salad with local roasted root vegetables,
Paired with La Vie en Rose, a farmhouse ale re-fermented with raspberries,
- BBQ oyster with shredded parmesan cheese, garlic butter compound, barbecue sauce and chives,
Paired with Snorkel, a farmhouse ale brewed with oyster mushrooms and sea salt.
The main courses will include:
- Slow-braised beef short rib with potatoes and leek au gratin,
Paired with Ambree, a tart amber beer.
- Flat bread with pork and peaches and shaved gruyere cheese,
Paired with Fen Tao, a barrel-aged sour beer refermented with Texas Hill country peaches.
Dessert will be:
- Mini rhubarb pies with homemade crust,
Paired with Repose, a farmhouse ale brewed with hay and aged in Brandy barrels.
Salt Lick has been a Texas staple since the ’60s. Starting off just as a barbecue pit (that’s still in use today) open on weekends and serving traditional family recipes, it quickly became a town favorite. It’s recently expanded into two quick-service restaurants. It’s been featured on Man v. Food and Adam Richman’s Best Sandwich in America.
Jester King was founded in 2010 and specializes in fermenting their beer with wild yeast. The Austin brewery has a tasting room and beer fans are welcome to tour the facility and see how their favorite beer is made. Jester King is a pretty small brewery, producing fewer than 1,500 barrels per year, so the brews can be tough to find in stores.
This event begins at 7 p.m. at The Salt Lick Cellars at 18300 Farm to Market Road 1826, Driftwood, TX. Tickets are on sale now for $75, and since space is extremely limited, get your ticket as soon as possible.
