In a world of Pinterest, we’ve discovered a recipe (or two or twenty) that get funky with…drum roll…breakfast cereals. We know, it sounds totally strange but trust us when we tell you that a box of corn flakes could be just what your casseroles are missing. We’ve compiled our top five sweet and savory recipes that highlight our favorite childhood cereals so you can have your nostalgia and eat it too.

Cap'n Crunch makes the perfect coating for chicken tenders.

Cap’n Crunch Chicken Strips

Before you continue scrolling, trust us when we tell you this chicken from the Pioneer Woman is ALL THAT. Because sometimes the strangest most unpredictable flavor combinations can spark culinary genius. This copycat of a famous Planet Hollywood dish incorporates…wait for it…Cap’n Crunch as the crispy chicken tender coating. Sounds way too sweet to be good, right? So so wrong. As any good cooking school student knows, balancing out the cereal with a little salt and pepper somehow turns those crunchy little balls of peanut butter goodness into the best compliment to chicken tenders you could ever imagine. Honorable mention goes to this corn flake fried chicken, another personal favorite!

Fruity Pebble ice cream is a great treat.

Fruity Pebble Ice Cream

What do you with your leftover fruity pebble milk? Turn it into delicious ice cream, of course! This no-machine version from Gemma’s Bigger Bolder Baking uses a simple three ingredient approach to turning your favorite cereal into a delicious ice cold treat. Don’t just stop at Fruity Pebbles either, this easy concoction can work with pretty much all your favorites including: Trix, Fruit Loops, Cocoa Puffs, Corn Flakes and so many more.

Cornflakes make a great topping for a potato casserole.

Hash Brown Casserole (Cornflakes)

The only hash brown casserole recipe you’ll ever need in your life. This version by the one and only Kelloggs features a hands-off five minute preparation of condensed chicken soup, sour cream, shredded cheddar and frozen hash browns. Pop it in the oven for a solid hour and then top with la piece de resistance: sweet, crunchy, golden corn flakes. This easy cheesy potato casserole is one of our favorite ways to use cereal in a savory way.

Experiment with other cereals for your krispie treats.

(Insert Favorite Cereal) Krispie Treats

You know what we’re talking about. The rice krispie treat has long been a favored American dessert for adults and kids alike. But there’s no need to stop with the snap, crackle and pop. Cereal bars are one of our favorite ways to combine breakfast and dessert into one gooey goodie. Play around with different cereals or go mad scientist and do a combination. The possibilities are endless!

Cinnamon toast crunch makes the perfect streusel topping for coffee cake.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Coffee Cake

One of our favorite breakfast food fusions! Coffee cake gets a cereal streusel makeover with this Cinnamon Toast Crunch Coffee Cake Bite recipe from Spoon Fork Bacon. These little finger foods are the perfect treat for breakfast on-the-go or a brunch-themed gathering. Mini cinnamon coffee cakes, a simple vanilla glaze and Cinnamon Toast Crunch streusel mean these bite-sized babies are the perfect way to start out your morning.
