Students who attend a Boulder culinary school should make sure to be involved in the community they may one day be working as a chef in. A fun way to do this is to participate in the events that are happening in Colorado. While you might have to make a trip to Denver or another city or town, chances are you’ll enjoy whatever event you attend. Colorado is home to many fun and exciting food and beverage events, and summer is the best time to experience them.
Cherry Creek North Food and Wine Festival
This year’s Cherry Creek North Food and Wine Festival will be held at the Filmore Plaza on the corner of Filmore Street and 2nd Avenue in Denver from 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 9. At the festival you can expect fine wine, craft beer and spirits. There will be food from a variety of vendors and live music. Vendors include Aviano, Blue Island Oyster, Opus, So Perfect Eats, True Food Kitchen, Harman’s Eat & Drink, Second Home Kitchen & Bar and many more. You can be sure you’ll enjoy yourself and you’ll be able to take home a commemorative wine glass to remember the evening.
Dining Al Fresco
Another great event to go to in Denver is Dining Al Fresco. At this event, held in Larimer Square on Aug. 15 starting at 5 p.m., the restaurants that call the square home will lengthen their patios out into the street so customers can eat and enjoy the square without the bustle of traffic. Restaurants participating include The Capital Grille, Bistro Vendôme, Corridor 44, The Crimson Room, Russell’s Smokehouse, Osteria Marco and several others. If you wish to participate in this event all you’ll need to do is place a reservation with one of the participating restaurants.
Guest chef dinner event with Marc Vetri
If you’re looking for something close, look no further than Frasco Food & Wine on Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. Frasco Food & Wine, on Pearl St. in the heart of Boulder, will host guest chef Marc Vetri. Vetri is the chef and founder of Philadelphia’s Vetri Family of Restaurants and is the author of the cookbook “Mastering Pasta.” The event will last all night, but if you wish to attend you should consider making a reservation.
Colorado state fair
Although not necessarily a food and beverage event, the Colorado state fair will be full of food vendors and is a great event for all ages. Here you’ll find some of the tastiest and most unhealthy fried foods you can get your hands on. You can get anything from your typical onion rings to fried Oreo cookies, cheesecake and peanut butter. This year’s state fair is in Pueblo, Colorado, and although it’s a bit of a drive, you can be sure that you’ll enjoy yourself once you get there. The fair will last from Aug. 28 through Sep. 7 and will feature a number of musical artists, events, carnival rides and much more.
