Boulder, Colorado can expect to see a new presence in the food delivery world, as OrderUp intends to open an office there following the $7 million that it received in series-A funding recently. The company, a food delivery application similar to GrubHub, is based in Baltimore and also intends to open another office in New York. These two new offices will be in addition to over 35 geographies in which OrderUp is already operating.
Revolution Ventures, a venture capital firm led by the co-founder of AOL, Steve Case, led the incredibly successful fundraising effort. Early reports indicate that, in addition to the new locations in Colorado and New York, the company will use the funding to bolster the growth of their existing operation in other ways. Specifically, the company intends to add as many as 40 new jobs, which should be of particular interest to students finishing up culinary courses.
The company has tried to distinguish themselves from other services in the same industry (GrubHub) and restaurants that already deliver by offering an expanded platform of access including mobile ordering and online tracking. Chris Jeffrey, CEO of OrderUp, explained this sentiment in greater detail to The Baltimore Sun.
“We go well beyond just a list of restaurants that already deliver, and we’re doing that by giving restaurants premier tools and services so that their customers can order delivery online and on mobile devices,” said Jeffrey. “We can help restaurants whether they’ve delivered for years or haven’t even thought about it. That means access to more delivery options and a more transparent ordering experience for customers.”
The company, which was founded in 2009, intends to continue leading its operations out of its Baltimore office for now. The new offices in Boulder and New York, though, should offer an interesting shake up in each city’s food delivery market.
